Social media use as we know it could honestly decline wo any type of web3 metaverse shit not only would the world be fine but people will wonder why they are happier and stuff. People honestly need a centralized stream of media/news that’s written somewhat honestly but if it can’t be …enough so that you can read between the lines. Idk I reluctantly agree that the movie network and mark fisher were correct in their general take that it doesn’t matter if what’s being exposed to us is some fundamental truth that would make us want to revolt and protest or like “questions the system in anyway” bc ultimately it’s being sold to us to consume and not to enact in our lives. We’re allowed to believe anything we just aren’t given the tools to do anything about it. Nothing will change that but I think enough people are aware now…we really don’t need like….as many niche information channels I don’t think it’s as amazing for “democracy” as people think. I only support absolute free speech in terms of like…Nicki Minaj saying its going down like syndrome
